Sri Lankan descent Uma Kumaran the first ever MP for Stratford and Bow constituency swore in today at the parliament. She missed the opportunity to swear in on her first day in the House of Commons as her Husband Jacob had a sudden TIA stroke. She had to rush back to the hospital soon after she got the message.
Family commitment and back
After a couple of days, she turned back to the commons and swore in the first member of Stratford and Bow a newly formed constituency of East London.
She was with her husband and family after the incident and informed her people that she would be back soon after this unexpected family engagement.
I’ll fight for East London
After becoming officially an MP she noted her X account “Today, I have been sworn in as the first ever MP for Stratford and Bow. It is the honour of my life to represent our constituency. I was born in East London and I’ll fight for East London. I’ll always be your voice in Westminster. ”
Her husband Jacob who is 39 was admitted to an NHS hospital and Uma Kumaran paid her gratitude to the NHS and the hospital staff for the rapid response with treatments.
Recently he was discharged and Uma said in her X account that her husband is doing well.
Kuamaran’s parents were Tamils from Sri Lanka who migrated around 40 years ago to the United Kingdom due to a civil war in Sri Lanka between LTTE and the government military. Her parents were assisted by Jeremy Corbyn one time Opposition Leader and the Former Leader of the Labour Party.
Kumaran joined politics with the Labour Party and contested two times for local elections earlier than the recent general elections. However, she was unable to secure a seat.
She continued to work with politics and functioned as the Deputy Director of Diplomatics of the Labour Party Leader Keir Starmer. In this time she won the newly formed seat and became a member of the Parliament under Starmer’s premiership.
