Former Inspector of Police (IP) seeking asylum in France, Duminda Jayathilake, claimed that Underworld kingpin Kanjipani Imran was merely a braggart and only a hero for cardboard heroes.
Former IP Jayathilake emphasized that he would bring Kanjipani Imran to Sri Lanka alone if given diplomatic permission in writing.
He made this claim while speaking to Sri Lanka’s radio channel, Neth FM. He had spoken to the radio channel following allegations leveled against him that he was involved in the murder of Club Wasantha. Also, he was alleged to have close ties with Kanjipani Imran.
Denying all the allegations he insisted that he doesn’t have any connection with Kanjipani Imran. He further denied the claims that he met Imran in France.
No ties with Kanjipani
“These are lies of some journalists and they are fabricating stories France is a big country. I have never met Kanjipani in France. Even others would not know where I am living.” Jayathilake said
Former IP Duminda said that he was an officer who has worked with a postgraduate degree in human rights and is trying to live a peaceful life in France due to his frustration with the system in Sri Lanka.
The former police inspector said that there are a large number of talented officers in the police force and that he would return to Sri Lanka if he was found guilty by any of these people. He pointed out that his child has not been going to school for said that his wife and the kids are living in Sri Lanka. Also revealed that his kid has not gone to school for five months.
“If I am asked to bring Kanjipani, I will bring him alone. If you believe this is a lie, ask the director of the Colombo Crimes Division about my morale. I will bring him alone.”
“We need a methodology to rehabilitate people. All I ask is to let me live peacefully. Please do not attempt to tarnish my reputation,” he said.
