Sri Lanka Cricket has announced the appointment of Australian national Craig Howard as the new permanent national bowling coach. This move comes after terminating the contract of the former Sri Lankan national bowling coach, Piyal Wijetunga, due to consistent performance issues.
Craig Howard brings a wealth of experience to the role, having been a first-class cricketer and holding a third-level coaching qualification from Cricket Australia. Prior to joining Sri Lanka Cricket, Howard served as the spin coach for the New Zealand White Ferns and the Victorian men’s first-class team.
With 12 years of experience as an Australian cricket consultant coach, Howard has an extensive coaching background. He has previously worked as an assistant coach for the Australian ‘A’ team and under-19 men’s and women’s international tours. Additionally, Howard served as the Spinning Coach for the South Australian Redbacks and Adelaide Strikers over a four-year period from 2011 to 2015.
His two-year contract with Sri Lanka Cricket commenced on Thursday (01). Craig Howard is set to assume his duties with the national team during the ongoing ODI series of Afghanistan’s tour of Sri Lanka.
