Sri Lankan-American gymnast Tiana Sumanasekera has decided to represent Sri Lanka in future international competitions.
In a post shared on her social media accounts, Sumanasekera described the decision as a proud and emotional milestone in her sporting career.
Having been passionate about gymnastics since childhood, she said it had been an honour to represent the United States national team (Team USA) over the past five years and expressed gratitude for the opportunities she had received during that time.
However, Sumanasekera said that competing for Sri Lanka from now on is an “absolute dream come true.” She believes that representing Sri Lanka will allow her to honour her heritage while contributing to the growth and promotion of gymnastics in Sri Lanka and across the South Asian region.
“As a Sri Lankan-American, my heart has always loved both countries equally,” Sumanasekera said, thanking everyone who has supported her throughout her journey and expressing excitement about the next chapter of her sporting career.
