Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, the leader of the Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) today (2) said the party is not agreeable to the provincial council system as it cannot find a solution to the ethnic problem in the country and the system is not suitable for a country like Sri Lanka.

Speaking to the media in Jaffna, MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam said that he would take up the issue in Parliament in the future.

He said that this provincial council system, which was created at the behest of India, would not provide any solution to the Tamil people or the ethnic problem in Sri Lanka due to the weakening of the established power system and the protests that would arise in the exercise of power.

The majority of the people in the country are trying to build a Sinhala Buddhist force and any government that is preparing to give the powers of the provincial council system to the North will face great opposition from the Buddhist monks and Buddhist forces in the South, he said. He also said therefore a political structure that is acceptable to all should be adopted.
