Lawyer Chamari Priyanka, wife of late minister Sanath Nishantha, has filed a complaint with the CID yesterday (07), expressing suspicions regarding her husband’s death. Priyanka presented a written complaint outlining specific concerns surrounding the circumstances of the accident and urged the CID to conduct a thorough investigation.

Prior to her’s complaint, the CID had taken notice of a social media post by the minister’s driver, posted shortly before the accident.
Following the incident, the driver was apprehended, and his phone was seized by the CID. He was subsequently remanded by the Welisara court in connection with the ongoing investigation, although he was granted bail on Monday (05).

During the court proceedings, the driver’s legal representative asserted that the minister had instructed him to reach Colombo from Halawata within ninety minutes, prompting the driver to exceed the speed limit. The lawyer also emphasized the driver’s longstanding service and intimate knowledge of the minister’s personal affairs.

In light of these developments, Priyanka Nishantha has called for the CID to inquire whether the accident occurred while the driver was operating at the speed he claimed. The CID has yet to comment on the matter, as the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the former state minister’s untimely demise.
