Two people, including State Minister Puttalam District MP Sanath Nishantha, died in a car accident on the Katunayake Expressway early hours of this morning (25). At around 2.00 AM The Land Cruiser Jeep he was traveling in coming from Katunayake to Colombo collided with a container vehicle traveling in the same direction near the 11.01 kilometer post. Also, the Jeep has hit the guardrail on the road.

The Minister of State as well as his security officer, Police Constable Jayakodi (72542), and the driver suffered fatal injuries and were admitted to Ragama Hospital. However, the minister and the police officer have died and the driver, is undergoing treatment.

Sanath Nishantha was 48 years old at his death and has been a member of Parliament since 2015 representing Puttalam District. Currently, he is the state minister of Water Supply.
