Investigations revealed that the car used to kill Kalapaluva Dhammarathana Thero, who was shot Tuesday (23) afternoon at Henegama Kahatana Sri Ganarama Temple, was used with the chassis number, engine number and registration number of a car belonging to a teacher residing in Galenbindunuwewa of north central province.

The Criminal Investigation Department says that the car used by the shooters is a black and dark blue vehicle, and the car belonging to the teacher of Galenbindunuwewa is a white one. Accordingly, it is revealed that criminals have used a car with details.

The gunmen fled towards Kaduwela after shooting and killing Dhammarathana Thero who was staying at the temple. The police say that the shooters stopped the car in the forested area of Kaduwela Godella and set it on fire.

The police say that the vehicle was set on fire to destroy evidence including fingerprints.

The police have also received a lot of information that there is a large amount of money in several bank accounts that are said to belong to this name and in the bank account of a lay disciple who is a close friend of the thera.

The police are going to take steps to conduct investigations in the future after obtaining an order from the court in this regard. If there is a large amount of money credited to the accounts, then investigations will be conducted to find out how the money got into the accounts and if there is any connection with this murder, the investigation department said.

Analyzing how the murder took place, the vehicle they used for this purpose, and the burning of the vehicle to destroy the evidence, it has been found that people who have a good knowledge of police investigations are involved in the murder.

It is speculated that they may be related to a security sector or have left a security sector.

It is also suspected that the reason for this murder could be a dispute over drugs or jewels. There is also a suspicion that an attempt to rob something by coming as officers of the Criminal Investigation Department has been mistakenly shot at Theranam.

It has also been found in the investigation that Thera was shot when he did not fear the shooters and went to a confrontation with them.
A chief in charge of the Gampaha police team conducting investigations stated that no specific information has yet been revealed about the team involved in the murder.

Gampaha Senior Superintendent of Police Jagath Rohana, Assistant Superintendent of Police S. Under the supervision of K. Upali and Superintendent of Police Chintaka, Malvatuhiripitiya Police Station Chief Inspector Gemunu Gunaratne and Crime Suppression Investigation Division Station Commander Sub Inspector Ananda are conducting further investigations. –
