The Police have revealed that one of the gunmen who came to assassinate Ape Janabala Party leader Saman Perera and others got into a Matara-bound bus from Kamburupiya. Now the investigators are trying to identify this person and find the rest of the gunmen who came in a green color Pajero Jeep police sources said.
Investigators have revealed after screening CCTV cameras in the area, that the killers carrying a jeep have fled towards Kamburupitiya. One CCTV footage shows a person who was in the front seat of the jeep getting down and taking a bus towards Matara. Initial investigations suspect that the number plate of the vehicle is a fake one.
Police teams suggest that this person would be the main shooter of this slaughter.
A senior Police officer in that area told Lankasara that they were thoroughly searching the whereabouts of this person.
Six Police teams are investigating the incident.
The police further said that they had informed Katunayake Airport to detect the suspicious person through detection cameras and arrest him if he tried to flee away from the country.
Five people including Saman Perea the Leader of the Ape Janabala Party were killed by an unidentified gang near the Beliatta exit of the southern expressway yesterday morning. They were killed while they stopped at a roadside restaurant. Ape Janabala’s leader and his team were traveling from Colombo in a white Land Rover jeep and the gunmen who followed the vehicle in a Pajero jeep suddenly shot at them killing four people in the spot and one person died while receiving treatments at the hospital.
