Tension has gripped the Colombo National Hospital as reports emerge that minor employees have taken Deputy Director Dr. Rukshan Bellana hostage in his office. Demanding his immediate removal from the hospital, workers have surrounded the administration building, prompting a halt in medical services as staff, including nurses, walk out.
According to hospital sources, the situation escalated due to Dr. Bellana’s role as the acting deputy director and his controversial remarks as the president of the Medical Officers’ Forum regarding the recent health strike initiated by 72 trade unions.

Protesters have encircled Dr. Bellana’s office, chanting slogans and preventing the capture of videos or photos. Concerns mount as reports suggest a group is prepared to attack the Deputy Director.
Police intervention has been initiated to restore order within the hospital premises amidst the escalating standoff between workers and hospital administration.
