Following a rugby match between St. Joseph’s College and Kingswood College in Pallekele, the head coach of the St. Joseph’s team, Nilfer Ibrahim, was assaulted.
The St. Joseph’s players emerged victorious with a score of 48-15 in Kandy.
It is noteworthy that Ibrahim is an alumnus of Kingswood College. The Kingswood Rugby Union issued a statement acknowledging the incident and stating that an investigation is currently underway by the rugby union and school officials.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim spoke to the media and revealed that he is receiving treatment at Peradeniya General Hospital. He sustained injuries to his knee and hand after being attacked by a spectator following the match. The details surrounding the assault and the motive behind it are still under investigation.
