An elderly mother sustained serious injuries after being bitten by a stray dog at her home according to the post-mortem examination conducted at Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
The dog had bitten her chest, resulting in severe injuries. Unfortunately, the mother, identified as Dayavathi (76) from Kodagoda Gamage in Ahangama Digabedda area, passed away after being admitted to Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
The mother had pre-existing conditions of diabetes and high blood pressure. The autopsy findings indicated that she was bitten by a domestic dog while it was restrained.
The post-mortem examination was conducted by Galle Municipal Coroner Mahesh Karunaratne, and expert forensic officer Prof. UCP Perera oversaw the examination. Based on the evidence and medical reports, the coroner concluded that the mother’s cause of death was the injuries sustained from the dog bite.
