Canadian police arrested a 33-year-old Sri Lankan yesterday (25),for allegedly impersonating a Canadian police officer and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Bramran, Canada. The suspect is Anushan Jayakumar, originally from Jaffna, who had immigrated to Canada.
According to the Bramran police, Jayakumar purportedly approached the girl, who was walking on the road, and presented a document indicating that he needed to question her. Subsequently, he led her to an isolated area and committed the crime.
In light of this incident, Canadian authorities have released a photograph of the suspect, aiming to determine if he has been involved in similar offenses against other children or women in Canada, as well as investigating potential links to other crimes.
It has come to light that the arrested individual from Jaffna had lost his job after moving to Canada for employment and had been residing with a friend.
The Bramran police in Canada are taking legal action to present the suspect in court, as the investigation continues.
