Voting for the Presidential Elections started at 7.00 AM this morning. Voting will be held in 13,421 polling stations across the island.
17143054 registered voters are eligible to vote and they are turning out for the vote peacefully reporters told.
Today the day ends with the 9th Executive President of the country deciding. During the first two hours of voting, there was little enthusiasm However at 10 AM it was observed that there was considerable turnout. Accordingly, 20 % of Colombo District voters cast their votes by 10 AM. Indicating the highest turnout which was 38 % recorded in Polonnaruwa. While Matara 30%, Kandy 20%, Monaragala 21 %, Badulla 215, Galle 18%, Kurunegala 30%, Matale 22%, Hambanthota 25%, Jaffna 22%, Kilinochchi 27%, Puttalam 23%, Anuradhapura30%, Trincomalee 30% of voters have turned out for the vote. People are seen going to the polls freely and casting their votes.
