The Government has confirmed the receipt of two more payments from the owner of the ship involved in the coastal clean-up operations following the damage caused by the X-Press Pearl.
These payments amount to a total of US dollars 878,650.53, equivalent to 16,315,451.05 Sri Lankan Rupees.
The payments were made in response to requests from the Sri Lanka Marine Environment Protection Authority, which has been overseeing the beach cleaning and rehabilitation efforts subsequent to the ship’s sinking.
The resolution of these claims was a key topic of discussion during recent meetings held between a Sri Lankan Government delegation and representatives of the ship owners and their insurers in Singapore on the 18th and 19th of July 2023.
Ongoing assessments are being conducted to determine further claims, in conjunction with legal proceeding.
