The former principal of St. Anthony’s Girls’ College, P.K.R. Ranasinghe, found herself in legal trouble as she was caught secretly recording her statement to the police. The statement, made yesterday (23) led to accusations of enrolling students into intermediate classes at the college using forged documents.
Accompanied by her lawyer, the former principal spent 9 hours giving her statement to the police. She placed her handbag on a nearby chair when she began her statement.
While giving the statement when a police officer inadvertently moved the chair with the handbag slightly. In a swift reaction, the former principal immediately moved the chair closer to herself. This suspicious behavior caught the attention of another police officer.
Upon inspecting the handbag, it was revealed that her mobile phone was secretly recording the ongoing statement and had been doing so for approximately 15 minutes.
The police promptly confiscated the mobile phone and reported the incident to the court. Subsequently, the phone will be handed over to the Police Information Technology Division for further investigation. A report will be obtained, and the phone, along with the report, will be presented as evidence in the court as part of the case.
