The Special Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kandy Police is conducting investigations to arrest the former Principal of St. Anthony’s School in Katugastota.
Former principal PKR Ranasinghe, who is a suspect in the incident of allegedly admitting students to the middle classes by using fake documents, had previously asked for anticipatory bail and the request was rejected by the Additional Magistrate of Kandy, Mohammad Rafi/
The police said that although the police went to the house of the principal in Gampola and to the Central Provincial Education Department where she was found dead, she was not present at those places.
A senior official of the Central Provincial Education Ministry said that after she was removed from the position of principal of St. Anthony Girls’ School, she has reported for work at the Provincial Education Office for only one day and she has submitted a medical report asking for sick leave.
A special investigation was also conducted by the Ministry of Provincial Education on the allegations made regarding the admission of students to St. Anthony’s using fake documents.
According to its report, a charge sheet has been issued to the principal and due to not reporting to work, it has not been possible to hand it over to her so far.
Regarding the incident, a team including Police Sergeant Hettiarachchi is conducting investigations on the instructions of Chief Inspector WMS Uvindasiri, station commander of the Special Crime Investigation Division of the Kandy Police.
