Protestors seized a firearm and 60 rounds of ammunition from a soldier on duty at the Battaramulla Polduwa intersection near the Parliament entrance yesterday.

The Police Media Division said that a soldier and a police officer also received injuries in the ensuing clashes between the protesters and the security forces.

The police officer who sustained grave injuries was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital and later transferred to Narahenpita Police Hospital.

A severely beaten-up soldier among the protestors lost his T-56 firearm and two magazines containing sixty live cartridges. Police believe the protestors seized the weapon.

The soldier is attached to the Wellawaya army base.
