A special gazette notification has been issued with the , designating numerous services within the health sector as essential services. This notification categorizes all tasks and labor associated with the maintenance, care, and treatment of patients in hospitals, nursing homes, dispensaries, and similar healthcare facilities as essential.
However, despite this declaration, 72 health unions have announced their intention to proceed with a strike scheduled for tomorrow (14). The primary demand driving this industrial action is the provision of the DAT Allowance, with unions pressing for its implementation.
Adding to the tumult in the healthcare sector, the All Ceylon Nurses Union Secretary, has declared plans for a protest in Colombo on the same day. This demonstration is spurred by the perceived lack of progress in addressing several grievances of the nursing service.
