However, Speaker and the former President of the Maldives Mohamed Nasheed has requested the authorities allow the aircraft carrying the Presidential party to land at the Velana airport.
Besides, the US has turned down an initial request by President Rajapaksa to the United States authorities to obtain a visa to enter the United States.
His destination after a Middle-Eat country is not known. The resignation will only be effective once the President reaches his final destination, and until such time the President has appointed Prime Minister as the acting President.
Authorities also stopped transmission of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation after the revolting crowds gathered near the SLRC transmission station in Colombo.
