Protesters were beaten and controlled ! PM’s office under heavy security!

The protesters who came to take over the Prime Minister’s office at Flower road were beaten and chased away by the police. According to sources there were baton charges and tear gas attacks against the protesters who tried to acquire PM’s office premises. All the telephone network connections also were severely disrupted at the moment sources further said.

Currently reports say the those protesters are all heading to the Galle Face.

Thousands of protesters gathered Flower Road this morning and were marching towards the Prime Minister’s Office. But the road was closed and the police fired tear gas and water cannons.

After that, the protesters broke through the roadblocks and proceeded past the Prime Minister’s office. Shortly after that, a large group of protesters broke the gates and entered the Prime Minister’s office and tried to occupy it.

But almost at the same time, the Prime Minister declared a state of emergency throughout the country and imposed a curfew in the Western Province. After a short while, police forces attacked the protesters with batons. Then there was heavy tear gas attack.

Every protester has left the Prime Minister’s office and security has been tightened further near the Prime Minister’s office.
