The Teldeniya Police have recovered another illegal vehicle belonging to Galthenna Kapuwa, who is currently in prison. This luxury Montero jeep, valued at millions of rupees, was found with fake license plates at his vehicle yard in Galthenna, Ampitiya.
The Teldeniya Divisional Criminal Investigation Unit reported that the vehicle’s registration number, verified by the Department of Motor Vehicles, actually belonged to a vehicle owned by a businessman in the Kuliyapitiya area. After recording a statement from this businessman, police seized the Montero jeep from the vehicle yard located in the Galthenna Devalaya area in Kandy yesterday (06) afternoon.
Currently, 12 high-value vehicles—including Montero, Prado, and Defender models, along with various cars—are stored in this yard. The investigation unit is working to verify the registration details of each of these vehicles through the Motor Registration Department.
Gamini Ananda, also known as Galthenna Kapuwa, previously attempted to avoid responsibility for a separate illegal, high-value jeep found in Digana. He was arrested by the Teldeniya Police and presented before the Teldeniya Magistrate’s Court, which ordered that he remain in custody until the 11th.
