Gamini Ananda, the Kapuwa (priest) of Galthenna Devalaya in Kandy, has been arrested in connection with an unlicensed jeep found at a house in Digana. Acting on information received, Teldeniya Police conducted a raid and discovered a Mitsubishi Jeep parked on the property.
In the initial investigation, the Kapuwa’s son claimed that the vehicle belonged to former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte and was brought to the house by Ratwatte’s private secretary, who recently died in a shooting. However, further investigation revealed a link between the vehicle and Gamini Ananda himself. The police have since confirmed that the Jeep is indeed owned by Gamini Ananda.
Additional investigations disclosed that the same jeep had previously been seized by police during an attempt to block former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s convoy in Kandy. Further inquiries also revealed that the *Kapuwa* manages a private car yard with a collection of 17 vehicles, some of which are suspected to be illegal.
Police are continuing their investigation, and Gamini Ananda is expected to be presented before the Teldeniya Magistrate today.
