Police investigations have uncovered that seven out of seventeen luxury vehicles owned by the well-known “Kapuwa” of the Galthenne Devalaya in Kandy are illegal. These vehicles were found parked in a private car park.
Yesterday, a Mitsubishi Pajero jeep was discovered at a house in Digana. The son of Gamini Kapuwa informed the police that the vehicle belonged to former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte, who is already in custody over another illegal vehicle case. However, after thorough investigations, the police revealed that this jeep in Digana is owned by the Galthenne Kapuwa.
The Mitsubishi jeep, which Kapuwa’s son had attempted to attribute to former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte, was found by the Teldeniya police the day before yesterday (31st) afternoon. Initially, the investigation began under the assumption that the jeep belonged to Lohan Ratwatte, but it was later confirmed to belong to the Galthenne Kapuwa.
Further investigations uncovered that this same jeep had been seized by the police a few years ago during an attempt to block former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s convoy in Kandy. Additional information from these past investigations revealed that the Galthenne Kapuwa not only owns the vehicle in question but also manages a private car yard with a collection of seventeen vehicles.
Upon inspecting the vehicle yard, police investigators identified seven suspicious vehicles. A formal investigation into all these vehicles is now underway.
According to police sources, the arrest of Galthenne Gamini Kapuwa and his son is expected soon.
