If the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is not ready to resign, alternative measures will be taken immediately constitutionally to remove him from the position a party leader from the independent faction of the government told to Lankasara.
He said their group was focused on supporting the proposed no-confidence motion to bring the Samagi Jana Balawegaya to the government as the first step in that process.
The party leader pointed out that in addition other alternative measures are being discussed.
He also pointed out that no one in the independent group has so far signed the no-confidence motion tabled by the Samagi Jana Balawega against the government.
According to him, they had hoped to remove the Prime Minister and move to a new caretaker government in the face of the no-confidence motion.
However, he explained that his stance had changed after the Prime Minister’s statement yesterday.
He said the no-confidence motion would be discussed again with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya in the future and that if the no-confidence motion against the government could be won, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa would automatically lose the PM’s job.
He reiterated that his group had so far tried to allow the Prime Minister to go on with dignity without being forcibly removed.
