A 17-year-old boy named A.P Darshan, hailing from Kokuvil, Batticaloa has lost his life while staying at the Islamabad Child Protection Home.
The boy was arrested by the police on November 16th on suspicion of theft and subsequently placed in the Islamabad Child Protection Home under the supervision of the National Child Protection Department on a court order issued on November 17th.
On Wednesday (29) the lifeless body of the 17-year-old was discovered in his sleeping quarters. A post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was internal organ damage resulting from severe physical assault.
In connection with this tragic incident, the police have arrested a 28-year-old woman named Pranis Jilendran, who served as the caretaker of the orphanage. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing.
