It is reported that a journalist who visited Miss Nishara Jayarathne, a State Counsel at the Attorney General’s Department and former co-ordinating officer of the former Attorney General today (04) has been interrupted by the security personnel of the department.
A.J Abeynayake, a court reporter for the Divaina newspaper, said that he has gone to meet Ms Nishara today to her office at the Attorney General’s office in order to collect some information that has to be reported regarding a drug case in which she was appearing for the Attorney General.
As soon he arrived at her office two security officers immediately came and asked Mr Abeynayake to leave the room. It is said that this was done on the orders of the Chief Administrative Officer of the Department. Also, Miss Nishara Jayaratne has been summoned to the Chief Administrative Officer at this moment.
The officials had told Mr Abeynayake that they had informed the administration that no journalist would be allowed to enter the premises after the appointment of the new Attorney General. Journalist Abeynayake has been summoned to the Chief Administrative Officer on this occasion and he has denied it.
It is reported that Miss Nishara Jayaratne, who acted as the coordinating officer of the former Attorney General, is being harassed by some senior officials and that the State Council has lodged a complaint with the Attorney General regarding the attempt of the senior officers of the department to harass her on duty.
