The plaque fixed for the opening of the Smart Library of the Attorney General’s Department has been removed, following controversy on social media.
The protest was sparked by the unintentional omission of the plaque in Tamil.
The new library of the Attorney General’s Department was opened by the Ambassador of China and the Attorney General of China on behalf of the sponsoring Chinese Government.
The plaque reads in Sinhala, English as well as Chinese, but the official language, Tamil, was omitted on the plaque.
Attorney General’s Coordinating Officer Nishara Jayaratne stated that it has been removed and a result containing the Tamil language is being prepared.
