Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mujibur Rahuman accused former Minister Manusha Nanayakkara of orchestrating a dangerous conspiracy that could threaten his life yesterday. Speaking in Parliament, Rahuman alleged that Nanayakkara had visited a prisoner serving a five-year sentence at Welikada Prison and promised him special privileges in exchange for implicating Rahuman in the crime for which the prisoner is incarcerated.
Expressing concerns about his parliamentary privileges, Rahman warned President Ranil Wickramasinghe would be held accountable if any harm befell him. He insisted that this statement be recorded in the Hansard. He announced his intention to file a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), providing all relevant information regarding the conspiracy.
In his speech, Rahman elaborated:
“Three days ago, Manusha Nanayakkara, accompanied by a person named Aslam, visited a suspect who has been imprisoned for five years. They assured the suspect that he would receive a house in Colombo, a car, financial support, and bail if he agreed to make a statement against me.
Honorable Chairman, the statement they seek is a false accusation connecting me to the crime for which this individual is detained. I have evidence of Nanayakkara’s meeting with the prisoner, and this is a grave situation. As many know, I am a member of Parliament who has consistently supported Sajith Premadasa and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya. My political activities are well-known, especially in Colombo.
I fear that Manusha Nanayakkara and Ranil Wickramasinghe might be trying to frame me or cause harm to my life. This is not mere speculation—I will provide the CID with evidence. I declare publicly that Ranil Wickramasinghe must be held responsible if anything happens to me.
I deeply regret having worked for 15 years alongside Ranil Wickramasinghe, sacrificing much to help him become the leader of this country.”
