Sri Lanka’s Election Commission has banned a lunch that was organized after a meeting between KD Lalkantha, an executive member of the National People’s Power (NPP), and 25 large-scale quarrymen at the Thilanka Hotel in Kandy yesterday.
Officials from the Kandy election office visited the hotel after receiving a complaint. They informed the NPP delegation and the hotel management that hosting such a lunch was inappropriate since an election had been announced. As a result, they stopped the lunch from being served.
It was found that prominent businessmen in the quarrying industry from various districts had attended the meeting. The election officials did not seal the food because it was part of a buffet that also served a large number of other guests, including foreigners.
