A special police team of the Monaragala Police has come across 37 bottles of different brands of liquor produced in foreign countries, 18 hampers, and five valuable timber logs in the official residence of Senior Superintendent of Police Sisila Kumara, in charge of the Monaragala division.
He is currently on remand following his arrest with a stash of cannabis.
Police say that the liquor bottles and logs were found during an inspection carried out on the instructions of the Criminal Investigation Department. The liquor had been seized during raids carried out by the police.
Investigators have speculated that the timber found may be for the needs of a hotel to be built on Buttala Kataragama Road.
It has also been revealed that the 18 hampers were given to him as gifts by subordinate police officers and businessmen close to him.
