Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapaksa in a shocking revelation claimed that he has received information that 250 million dollars were exchanged as a bribe in order to delay or obstruct legal proceedings against the Xpress pearl shipping disaster.
The fire erupted in a Singaporean company-owned vessel, Express Pearl which happened near the Colombo port in Sri Lanka which is considered to be the worst marine environmental destruction in the world in recent times.

Yesterday (12th) night, he joined the live television program “Mahajana Dinaya” on national television and said that he is the first to reveal these facts.

The minister said that he had to intervene in this case even though it was not related to him because of the ongoing tug-of-war between the Attorney General’s Department and the Marina Environmental Pollution Authority .

The minister further revealed that the expert reports that he requested through intervention were also continuously delayed. In the meantime, he received information that the shipping insurer has credited a sum of 250 million dollars to the London account of a certain Sri Lankan person to avoid this case.
