President’s Counsel and Foreign Minister Ali Sabri say that there are provisions in the proposed new anti-terrorism bill that cannot be generally agreed upon.
Joining the Derana 360 program, the minister said that he discussed this in the cabinet.
“The first thing is that I don’t agree with giving unbridled power to a Deputy Inspector General in the case of issuing a warrant for arresting someone.
It should at least stop with the Secretary of Defense.
Next, there is a problem with that definition. I also think that giving a broad interpretation is very dangerous. Because this can be misinterpreted and abused. Now it is understood. We would like to discuss it.
The law has to be generally acceptable to everyone. Not to be used as a general law, which can be used as an exception only in cases of terrorism.
The minister also said that although he has always worked from a position of opposition to President Ranil Wickremesinghe, he now admits that there has been a misunderstanding about him
