Sources within intelligence agencies have revealed an ongoing operation to transport individuals to Colombo via bus for a political meeting scheduled for this evening (17), orchestrated by Siran Basik, a prominent figure in Sri Lanka’s drug-trafficking network currently evading authorities in Dubai.
Basik, previously implicated in large-scale drug trafficking activities centered in Mount Lavinia, was apprehended by the Criminal Investigation Department on charges of money laundering linked to drug proceeds.
According to intelligence reports, Basik’s associates are arranging for five buses to ferry people from Dehiwala, Mount Latvia, and nearby estates to the event venue. Additionally, they are providing food, beverages, and an incentive of 3000 rupees to each participant.
This development follows a significant event earlier this year when Sol Beach Hotel, reportedly constructed with proceeds from Basik’s illicit activities, was demolished under the Justice Operation on January 1st.
Furthermore, it has emerged that Basik’s son was poised to contest elections in Mount, adding another dimension to the unfolding situation.
