Health professionals have issued an ultimatum to the Ministry of Health, warning of mass resignations if Dr. Rukshan Bellana, acting deputy director of Colombo National Hospital, is notimmediately removed.
In response, junior hospital staff initiated protests this morning (17) but resumed services when Dr. Bellana failed to report for duty. However, trade unions have declared that unless Dr. Bellana is ousted by next Monday (19), hospital staff nationwide will convene in Colombo for a large-scale protest. Furthermore, a unified strike across all hospital staff members at the National Hospital is imminent.
This escalation follows persistent demands for Dr. Bellana’s removal, citing concerns over his suitability for the role.
