ICC has decided to relocate the Under-19 World Cup from Sri Lanka to South Africa, according to international media reports. This decision was made during the ICC board meeting held in Ahmedabad today (21).
Cricbuzz, a well-known cricket news website, highlighted that the move was influenced by concerns about administrative uncertainties within Sri Lanka Cricket.
The ICC board, after thorough discussions, upheld its previous decision to suspend the Sri Lanka Cricket.
The Under-19 World Cup was originally scheduled to take place from January 14 to February 15 in Sri Lanka. However, with the suspension in place, the ICC opted to move the tournament to South Africa. Despite the suspension, the Sri Lankan cricket team will be allowed to continue participating in international matches, and controlled funds will be provided to ensure the smooth operation of the sport in the country.
Sri Lanka Cricket chairman Shammi Silva expressed regret over the confusion but emphasized that cricket activities in the country would not be interrupted. He confirmed that the Sri Lanka Under-19 team would still participate in the relocated Under-19 World Cup in South Africa.
The ICC will now oversee the funding of Sri Lanka Cricket during this period.
