The Colombo High Court today ordered that former Member of Parliament Hirunika Premachandra, who was found guilty of kidnapping and assaulting a young man in a Defender Jeep in 2015, be sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment.
Delivering the judgement Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja declared that she was found guilty of all 18 charges in the indictment made on On December 21, 2015 .
The judge stated that there is satisfactory evidence that the crime was committed by Hirunika Premachandra after considering the facts and evidences that have been presented that aided and abetted the kidnapping of the concerned youth.
Accordingly, the court sentenced her to three years of hard labor.
A case was pending against Hirunika Premachandra in connection with the kidnapping and assault of a young man who worked in a garment shop in Dematagoda area.
