Hirunika Premachandra a Colombo District former Parliamentarian sentenced to a 03-year jail term was detained in the R ward of the women’s section of the Welikada prison yesterday (28). Prison Commissioner Gamini B Dissanayake told the media.
He said that the ward was a general ward and she was wearing the dress code for female inmates (a white cloth and a top) and was provided security in the prison. Mrs.Premachandra was brought to the Welikada prison in a prison van at around 2.00 PM yesterday. After completing the necessary paperwork for her imprisonment, and after being referred to the prison doctor, was sent to the relevant prison ward Commissioner General further said. .The prison commissioner emphasized that Ms. Hirunika did not make any special requests, and there was no need for her to be detained in a special ward.
The Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja yesterday delivered the verdict that a former Member of Parliament was found guilty of abducting a youth who was working in a Shop of Dematagoda, in a Defender Jeep in 2015. The High Court Judge ordered three years of rigorous imprisonment.
Delivering the judgement Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja declared that she was found guilty of all 18 charges in the indictment made on December 21, 2015.
