Ravi Kumudesh, convenor of the Health Service Trade Union Alliance, has announced that the decision regarding the strike, temporarily halted, will be properly announced following discussions between representatives of 72 trade unions with the President’s Secretary and the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, scheduled to commence after 12.00 noon today (06).
In comparison to the DAT allowance provided to doctors, this dialogue will advocate for extending the same allowance to other healthcare sector members in proportion to their basic salaries. Kumudesh emphasized that if a satisfactory resolution is not reached during the discussions, continuous action will be initiated in hospitals across the island, with a looming threat of an official strike announcement.
Contrarily, the Association of Specialist Doctors has issued a stern warning, opposing the extension of the DAT allowance beyond doctors and specialists. They assert that any attempt to grant this allowance to other health sector members will be met with severe union action.
