A drunken motorcyclist has caused a road accident last night (06) on New Padeniya Road in Dambulla last night resulting in the death of a married couple, both around forty years old and residents of Bandaragama. The couple, who earned their livelihood by selling incense sticks, tragically lost their lives due to the reckless motorcyclist.
According to police reports, the family was standing by the roadside when they were struck by a drunken motorcyclist, leading to fatal consequences. The couple succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while their 9-year-old baby was left critically injured and has been rushed to Peradeniya Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The motorcyclist responsible for this tragic incident has been apprehended by the police and taken into custody. Investigations into the accident are currently underway.
