Former Health Secretary Janaka Sri Chandragupta has been summoned to the CID today (18) with regards to the immunoglobin vaccine deal.
The former health secretary, currently under a travel ban imposed by a court order, faces accusations of playing a significant role in the controversial vaccine deal. The Immunoglobulin injection scam has raised serious concerns about corruption within the health sector.
In connection with the immunoglobulin injection transaction, it was revealed that Sri Chandragupta, then health secretary, ordered the director of the blood transfusion center to release blood plasma for vaccine production to a private company owner who is currently in remand prison. This release was recommended by Chandragupta on February 28th, with a request for 2000 liters of blood plasma.
The ongoing investigation is delving into the alleged smuggling of the immunoglobulin vaccine. The pharmaceutical manufacturing company in the country is accused of using the plasma and selling the vaccine to the state pharmaceutical corporation, falsely claiming it was imported from an Indian company and thereby exempt from the drug regulatory authority.
