Two prisoners, aged 30 and 32, escaped from Agunukolapalassa prison yesterday (17) while being transported to Agunukolapalassa hospital for treatment.
The escapees managed to evade prison officers despite being handcuffed. However, they were later apprehended by Thanamalvila police officers in the Thanamalvila Sarvodaya area on the evening of the same day.

The arrested individuals, residents of the Valasmulla area, were initially imprisoned for various crimes, including robbery and possession of live grenades. The handcuffs that had been removed and buried by the escapees were also recovered.
The suspects are scheduled to appear in the Wellawaya Magistrate Court, and further investigations into the incident are being carried out by officers from the Thanamalvila Headquarters Police Station.
