Hospital sources have revealed a growing fear among doctors regarding the administration of injections and medications to patients seeking treatment for various diseases.
Recent incidents at Peradeniya Hospital, National Eye Hospital, and Kandy Hospital have resulted in patient deaths caused by anesthetic drugs, vision impairment from eye fluids, fatalities due to allergic reactions to antibiotics, and fatal treatments, intensifying concerns among medical professionals.
The sources further indicate that doctors are hesitant and fearful in their medical practice, often seeking guidance from higher-ranking doctors before administering anesthesia or prescribing antibiotics to patients.
As per the report, doctors emphasize the urgent need for the National Drug Regulatory Authority to swiftly address these uncertainties. Failure to take immediate action could potentially lead to a collapse of the healthcare system, emphasizing the critical nature of resolving these safety concerns.
