Following the untimely death of a thirty-five-year-old mother of two children shortly after undergoing eye surgery at the Colombo National Eye Hospital, many patients who were admitted to the hospital ward for eye surgery have voluntarily departed, creating a serious predicament.
The medical spokesperson emphasized that patients who had been waiting for their turn for several years, eagerly anticipating the operation, have now chosen to leave the hospital due to fear and apprehension.
This sudden departure has raised concerns about the potential consequences, as these patients may resort to alternative medical methods or face prolonged suffering without treatment.
In addition to the patient departure, it has been reported that a significant number of hospital staff members involved in the ill-fated operation have failed to report for duty, still grappling with the shock of the incident.
It is worth noting that fatalities during eye surgeries at the hospital are extremely rare, further amplifying the gravity of the situation.
