The Colombo Magistrate’s Court issued an order today (06) acquitting Nalaka Silva in the 2019 case related to the alleged conspiracy to kill two former presidents, Maithripala Sirisena and Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
The Attorney General, presenting the case, informed the court that there was insufficient evidence to sustain the allegations against Nalaka Silva. The court, in response to this revelation, determined that the case lacked the necessary grounds for prosecution.
Nalaka Silva had previously been suspended from his duties by the National Police Commission on October 17, 2018, while serving as the head of the Terrorist Investigation Directorate. Following an appeal submitted by Silva, he was reinstated on March 1, 2023, albeit on half salary.
