In the wake of heavy rains, a concerning crack has emerged in the three-storey building of Katugastota St. Anthony’s Girls’ College, prompting authorities to bar entry as a safety precaution. Consequently, the school administration has declared leave for classes in the 8th, 9th, and 11th years, which were conducted within the compromised building.

Approximately 600 students were attending classes in 12 rooms within the affected building. Recognizing the potential risks, Indika Ranaweera, the Head of the Kandy District Disaster Management Unit, recommended a thorough inspection by the National Building Research Institute to assess the building’s condition and provide an official report.
In response to the evacuation of the affected classes, Central Province Education Secretary Menaka Herath has directed students to Mawilmada Rishikala Beauty College and Mawilmada College for the continuation of their studies.
