The Bribery and Corruption Investigation Commission has initiated legal proceedings against seven individuals, including five employees of the Motor Transport Department, in connection with the illegal registration of approximately 400 vehicles that had not been cleared by customs.
According to the Bribery Commission, the illicit registration of these vehicles has caused significant financial losses to the government, circumventing proper Sri Lanka customs procedures.
Investigating officers have uncovered detailed information concerning 156 of these vehicles, with a majority falling under the luxury category.
Consequently, the Bribery Commission has seized seven vehicles from their current owners and handed them over to Sri Lanka Customs, following court orders.
