A 39-year-old Australian journalist, employed with ABC media network, has lodged a complaint with Nuwara Eliya Police alleging sexual assault during a visit to a massage center in Velambada area of Kandy. According to her statement, the incident occurred when she availed of a massage service arranged through an online platform at a hotel.
The journalist, accompanied by her family, had been staying at the hotel from the Tuesday (06) to Friday (09). She reported the assault to Nuwara Eliya Police upon returning from her trip to Nuwara Eliya.
Investigations by the police have identified the alleged perpetrator as a 33-year-old resident of Horana, who also serves as a cricket umpire. However, no arrests have been made thus far in connection with the incident.
Velamboda Police, tasked with further investigation, have stated that the complainant cannot currently undergo medical examination or appear in court. Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police overseeing the Kandy Division has instructed ongoing investigations into the matter.
