Beliaththa PS Chairman and brother arrested for GI pipes fraud

The chairman of the Beliatta Pradeshiya Sabha and his elder brother have been arrested by the Beliatta police this afternoon (29) on charges of secretly selling stock of Galvanized Iron (GI) pipes purchased for a community water project in the Beliatta area to a company in the Malabe.

The president of Beliatta Pradeshiya Sabha (Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna) Cyril Munasinghe and his elder brother Piyadasa Munasinghe have been arrested.

It has been revealed in the preliminary police investigation alleged chairman has also acted as the chairman of the relevant community water project.

Beliaatta Mahahilla East Community Water Source Parakum Samiti belonging to the size of two trenches G.I. A quantity of 19 pipes has been stored in the house of the chairman’s elder brother after the related project.

One pipe has been brought for the relevant water project at a cost of 22000 rupees. The chairman has secretly sold the rest of the popes to an institution located in Malambe for 15000 rupees each.
