Sapugaskanda Police today (06) arrested the murderers of a woman who was found murdered in a luggage in Sapugaskanda recently.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of the woman named Mohammad Shashi Fathima Mumtaz, a resident of an housing complex in Maligawatta, Colombo. Among the killers is a woman.
The incident is reported as follows.
During police investigations, it was suspected that Roshana, a friend of the victim and her brother, may have been involved in the murder. The two were reported missing at the time, police said.
Police have arrested Rosana and his brother, who were residents of the Mattakkuliya house where the victim had last visited yesterday (05).
During interrogation, the suspects revealed everything. Rosana, who was arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman named Fatima Mumtaz, has also been revealed to be a gambling addict. She lost everything she owned at a gambling place in Colombo and eventually pawned her wedding ring and lost it too.
Rosana asks Fatima, who was murdered, to release her from the mortgage when she has a few days to save the mortgage. Fatima is a woman who is heavily addicted to gambling, as well as running a pawning business for losers .
At Rosana’s request, Fatima left her home on the 28th with the intention of rescuing Rosana’s ring and giving her some money to keep the ring in her possession.
Rosanna and Fatima had gone to save the mortgage in a three-wheeler belonging to Rosanna’s brother. After rescuing the mortgage, Rosanna invites Fatima to her home for a cup of tea.
Fatima accepted the invitation and arrived at Rosanna’s house in Mattakkuliya.
Rosana’s brother Fatima, who came from behind while drinking tea, was beaten to death with a pole. The body was then kept inside the house over a night . Rosanna’s husband, who came home that night, was told not to tell anyone about the murder.
Meanwhile, Rosanna and her brother packed the body in a suitcase and brought a small rental truck to pretending transport some electrical appliances including a refridgerator and a washing machine. The bag containing Fatima’s body was loaded with electrical equipment.
Rosana’s brother had loaded the body into his three-wheeler at Wellampitiya and dumped it in the Sapugaskanda garbage dump. The body was left in Kanugoda on the 29th. After her death, they had taken away her jewelery and money and the police have been able to recover the items. Fatima’s husband had lodged a complaint with the Blumenthal Police on the 1st regarding her disappearance.
Rosanna and her brother have been arrested on suspicion of murder and Rosanna’s husband has been arrested on a charge of concealing a crime.
Sapugaskanda Police are conducting investigations under the direction of Sapugaskanda SSP Roshan Dias.
